Oral Surgeon in Smokey Point, WA
If you live in Arlington, Marysville or Stanwood, oral surgery has usually meant a drive south. Our Smokey Point office exists so it does not have to.
OM3 Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery treats patients at 16410 Smokey Point Blvd, Suite 103. Five board-certified surgeons work across our four Snohomish County offices, including Dr. Dustin Altmann, DMD. Call 360-658-8822 to book a consultation at this location.
One thing worth knowing before you set off. The ZIP code here is 98223, which most mapping apps label Arlington rather than Smokey Point. Search the street address, not the office name.
What we treat at the Smokey Point office
This office covers the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Extractions and dental implant placement fill most of the schedule. Wisdom teeth, bone grafting, impacted canines, jaw joint problems and facial injuries make up the rest. We are a surgical practice only, so your own dentist continues with your routine care.
Washington rule WAC 246-817-420 covers how a group practice must describe its dentists. Each one counts as a general dentist or a specialist. All five OM3 surgeons are board-certified specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Each finished a surgical residency after dental school, then passed board certification on top of it.
- Wisdom teeth and third molar removal, including deeply impacted teeth
- Dental implant, from a single tooth through to a full arch
- Bone grafting, sinus lifts, ridge augmentation and socket preservation
- Surgical extraction of broken, decayed or retained roots
- Exposure and bonding of impacted canines, alongside your orthodontist
- Biopsy and diagnosis of lesions in the mouth
Testimonials From Our Smokey Point Patients
Who does this office actually serve?
Smokey Point is our northernmost location and it covers the top of the county. Patients book here from Arlington, Marysville, Stanwood, Lake Stevens and the surrounding rural areas. For most of them this office is twenty to thirty minutes closer than Everett and a great deal closer than Seattle.
That distance matters more than it sounds. Oral surgery is rarely one appointment. A consultation, the procedure, then a follow up is normal, and sedation cases add a driver making the same trip. Three round trips to Seattle is a different proposition to three round trips to Smokey Point.
If you are coming from further north or east, call and ask what the drive is really like at your appointment time.
We can often group visits to cut down the trips. Ask about that when you book.
The first step towards a beautiful, healthy smile is to schedule an appointment. Please contact our office by phone or complete the appointment request form. Our scheduling coordinator will contact you to confirm your appointment. If you are an existing patient, this contact form should not be utilized for communicating private health information.
What happens at your first appointment
Your first visit is a consultation rather than surgery. Set aside 45 to 60 minutes. You talk through your medical history. A surgeon examines you, and you have a scan if the case needs one. A surgeon then explains what they found, what they recommend, and what the alternatives are. You leave with a plan and a written estimate.
The surgeon examines the area and the structures around it. Most planning then needs cone beam CT scanning, a three dimensional scan showing exactly where nerves, sinus floors and roots sit. We scan here during the same visit rather than sending you elsewhere.
You hear what the surgeon suggests and why. You hear the other options too. Waiting is one of them, where waiting makes sense.
Ask about recovery before you leave. Most people forget, then worry later.
If the treatment needs several visits, we set out the order and the gaps between them.
What are your options for anesthesia?
Three, and the right one depends on the procedure and on you. Local anesthetic numbs the site while you remain awake. Intravenous sedation puts you into a light sleep, and most patients remember very little afterward. General anesthesia suits longer or more complex surgery. Our clinical team trains to assist with each. We check your medical history first, then recommend one.
Being nervous about surgery is common. Say so, and it changes what we suggest.
Some patients want every step explained as it happens. Others would rather not know. Tell us which you are.
Sedation requires a ride home. This matters more here than at our other offices, because the drive is longer for many Smokey Point patients. Arrange the driver before you book, not the night before.
What does treatment cost, and will insurance pay?
Three things drive the cost: the procedure, whether you need grafting first, and the anesthesia you choose. We give you a written estimate at the consultation, before we schedule anything. We work with most dental insurance carriers and bill your plan as a courtesy. Some oral surgery goes to medical insurance rather than dental.
Plans differ a lot. Our team checks your own benefits and gives you a figure to expect before you commit. Fees your plan does not cover remain yours, and most carriers take four to six weeks to respond.
CareCredit, Cherry and Sunbit are available if you would rather spread the cost. Each one is a separate lender with its own terms. You apply with them directly.
Why patients choose the Smokey Point office
All four of our offices have a cone beam CT scanner and an intraoral scanner, and we perform IV sedation at all four. You get the same equipment and the same sedation options wherever you book.
What does recovery look like after surgery?
Most patients ask the same three things. How long am I off work, when does the swelling go down, and what can I eat while it heals.
For wisdom teeth, plan on two to three days away from your normal routine. Swelling usually peaks on the second or third day and then eases off. Stick to soft food early on, and expect the sockets to take several weeks to close over.
Implant surgery is often gentler than people expect. The discomfort is usually milder than a difficult extraction. Waiting is the harder part, because the bone needs months to grow around the implant before your dentist fits the crown on top.
You leave with written instructions and a number to call. Please use it. We would much rather answer a question on day two than find a problem on day ten.
That number matters more when you live twenty five minutes away. A phone call often saves you a trip.
Finding the Smokey Point office
The office is at 16410 Smokey Point Blvd, Suite 103, Smokey Point, WA 98223, on Smokey Point Boulevard. Smokey Point is an unincorporated area sitting between Arlington and Marysville, which is why the postal address and the map label do not always agree.
Parking is a shared lot and it is free. Come in through the main doors. We are Suite 103 on the first floor, and the building has an elevator if you need the upper floors. The nearest cross street is 164th St NE.
Give yourself a few extra minutes on a first visit. If you cannot find the suite, call 360-658-8822 and someone will talk you in.

Questions about the Smokey Point office
Is this the Arlington office or the Smokey Point office?
Both names describe the same building at 16410 Smokey Point Blvd, Suite 103. The 98223 ZIP code is an Arlington postal code, and mapping apps often display Arlington as a result. Smokey Point is not its own city. It sits between Arlington and Marysville. Search the street address and you will arrive in the right place.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. Call 360-658-8822 and book a consultation directly. Many patients arrive with a referral because their general dentist found something outside their scope, but it is not required. Bring the referring practice name if you have one, so we can send our findings back after your visit.
Consulting here and having surgery elsewhere
Yes, though for most Smokey Point patients this is already the closest office. Your records move freely between our four offices. You can consult at one and have surgery at another. Ask the coordinator when you book and they will check every calendar.
How soon can I usually be seen?
That depends on the surgeon, the office and how urgent the case is. Because five surgeons share four calendars, there is often something sooner at another location than the first date offered here. If your case is urgent, say so on the phone. We sort urgent cases differently from routine ones.
