3D Imaging
Cone Beam CT Scan
The i-CAT system gives our oral and maxillofacial practice state-of-the-art technology to help Dr. Kim, Dr. Wahan, Dr. Brady and Dr. Altmann diagnose potential issues more accurately and provide treatment with unprecedented confidence. Unlike a traditional spiral CT scanner, this 3D system utilizes cone beam CT technology and provides precise, crystal-clear digital images while minimizing your exposure to radiation.
Our i-CAT system enables us to perform a wider range of diagnoses and treatments in our office, helping to reduce multiple visits. The i-CAT scanner allows us to choose the field of view, or scanning area, that best suits your specific treatment needs. This helps to limit your radiation exposure because we are focusing specifically on your area of concern.
The i-CAT system brings the latest 3D technology to OM3 Oral Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery, providing unmatched visualization of anatomical detail which aids in treatment planning and helps us to better explain the particulars of your case, as well as address any questions you may have. Drs. Kim, Wahan, Brady and Altmann can use this innovative technology to quickly and easily share 3D images of the area of concern with your referring doctor – allowing the doctors to collaborate on your care, improving your experience, and delivering a positive treatment outcome.

FAQs
Why would I need a 3D scan instead of a regular X-ray?
Regular X-rays show flat images, while 3D imaging shows depth and exact positioning. This is especially helpful for procedures like dental implants, impacted teeth, TMJ evaluation, and complex extractions where precise anatomy matters.
What is 3D imaging or a cone beam CT scan?
A cone beam CT scan is a type of 3D imaging that gives your surgeon a detailed, three-dimensional view of your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and surrounding structures. It provides more information than traditional dental X-rays, which helps with accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
How long does a 3D dental scan take?
The scan itself usually takes less than a minute. The entire process is quick and done right in the office, so there’s no need to visit an outside imaging center.
What types of dental procedures use 3D imaging?
3D imaging is commonly used for dental implants, impacted teeth, wisdom tooth evaluation, TMJ assessment, bone grafting, and other oral or facial surgery procedures where detailed planning is important.
Can 3D imaging help improve treatment accuracy?
Yes. Having a clear 3D view allows your surgeon to see exact measurements and anatomical details. This helps with precise planning and reduces uncertainty before and during treatment.
Is 3D imaging done during my consultation?
In many cases, yes. If your surgeon feels a 3D scan is needed, it can often be taken during your consultation visit, allowing your treatment plan to be discussed right away.
